Every day I see a post on Facebook showing a fuel station with prices a good 20 pence a litre cheaper than anywhere else, and various comments confirming that this really is the case. It’s a place in Shropshire called DA Roberts, and it’s an “Essar” station, which I’ve never heard of (I’m in Kent). Can anybody in this area confirm if this is real or just some BS publicity stunt?

  1. Not sure about this specific one but the BBC ran a story about an Oil for Wales petrol station being a lot cheaper and it was true.

    Problem is:

    A) It’s not worth driving hundreds of miles to get to these petrol stations.

    B) The news causes huge queues to get into them.

  2. Yes. It’s here – [https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/D.A.Roberts+Fuels+Ltd/@52.9856576,-2.7122352,16z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x487a9312656cae9f:0x8c68e8b7f972371e!8m2!3d52.9839896!4d-2.7131309](https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/D.A.Roberts+Fuels+Ltd/@52.9856576,-2.7122352,16z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x487a9312656cae9f:0x8c68e8b7f972371e!8m2!3d52.9839896!4d-2.7131309)

They’ve been doing it for a very very long time, nothing to do with the current fuel prices. It think it’s due to being a wholesaler and making lots of money selling fuel for boats on the canal, and fuel oil for rural properties in the area which don’t have gas. They can afford to sell it at minimal profit.

  3. Don’t know about Shropshire, but the two stations here are ~8p/l to 10p/l cheaper than the ones in the town 8 miles down the road.

  4. I don’t know about Shropshire, but Costco are selling diesel at £1.699, which is about 10-15p/l cheaper than everywhere else near me

  5. It is real. I live locally, fuel my car up there and have my heating oil delivered by them.
