I’ve been self isolating for the last 3 years and I want to make a change but I’m not sure how. Just for a bit about myself I’m a really shy and introverted 17m who was homeschooled which meant I didn’t have to push myself out of my comfort zone and talk to people and because I didn’t have to I was stupid and didn’t. Because of this I have zero social skills which makes it difficult to have a normal conversation that doesn’t feel forced. And I know to improve my current situation I need to actually get out but I’m not quite sure how. I live in a small city (less than 40k so not tiny but not very big) so it seems difficult to find social opportunities and even when I do find them I can’t push myself for some reason. The only current place I talk to people outside of my family is work.

  1. If it’s at all possible, speak to a therapist about this. They will give you the tools you need to help you with any social anxiety you have. Those tools will help you towards bigger and smaller goals, and you’ll work towards them at a pace that you’re comfortable with. Good luck!

  2. Take small steps (and celebrate them) and don’t rush. I bet it will be overwhelming after that long time.
