The reason I ask, is because my wife and I are in a stalemate. I cannot stand Trader Joe’s food. I think it’s disgusting and second rate. She shops there, even after eight years of marriage and me whining about it. I love giant. Has all the familiar and trusted brands, and everything is fresh.

What’s your opinion?

  1. The nearest Giant Food is about 3,000km from where I live

The nearest TJ’s is about 150km

    So, no.

  2. Personally, I like a lot of the frozen foods that TJs has. I also prefer their tofu, & various vegetarian options better than bigger places like Safeway. My bf hates TJs, can’t stand it which is fine, he can’t fathom why I would shop there. They don’t have good selection for meats, but I’m always happy with their produce, frozen, & meat substitute options.

  3. We shop at Giant. Its a plain vanilla grocery store. We found Traders Joe’s trying to be a quirky culture.

BUT – the gasoline fuel points is huge. We get on average $1.50 off per gallon twice a month. Now, my wife really works the rewards points quite well. We’ve been using these for over 15 years.

    Good luck.

  4. There’s a Giant about an hour away from me so no and same with TJ.

I shop at Walmart for regular groceries and shoprite for meats fruits and veggies

  5. Aldi for most groceries. Marcs for the others.

I do like HyVee but there are none near me.

Giant Eagle is a bit overpriced.

  6. I think different products are better at the two stores. Generally TJs has better snacks and frozen food, but Giant has better fresh produce. I live near both and usually alternate which I go to.

  7. Mostly Giant because it’s cheaper. There’s some things I like at Trader Joe’s like the cauliflower fried rice and chicken shawarma that I stop in and buy once in awhile.

  8. i’ve never been to giant, but there are certain things at TJ’s that simply rock; their fresh mushrooms in the little brown cardboard box, the shitakes and the sliced baby bellas are unlike any i’ve had, including the ones I’ve grown. theyirpackaged sockeye salmon, oddities like farro grain, and their olive oils.

Like any store abut especially food, you have to know what to go for.

  9. Is Giant Food related to Giant Eagle or Kroger? Because Whole Foods and Trader Joe exist for cake and spices respectively and Kroger is for everything else. Family of 4 – we spend around 200/week at the Kroger. We can’t afford to buy the same quantity of food at Whole Foods or TJs.

  10. Never heard of giant food

But I love Trader Joe’s as they have everything I need and it’s quality

  11. Never been to a giant, but Trader Joe’s is amazing. Nearest one is 100 miles from me and every so often I’ll make the trip. Especially during the holidays. They’ve got some really good Christmas stuff
