My husband (M33) and I (31f) have been invited to a family wedding in Europe. His cousin is getting married and the whole family has been invited. If we end up going, we would have to travel with my in laws (F66) (M72) and my husbands older siblings (m40) (f42).
This is the problem… My mother-in-law is so unbearable. I’ve travelled with her before, and it was a miserable time. She is someone who always makes annoying comments, and never ever apologies for her actions… Ever! I don’t care much for his siblings either, but that’s another story. Because of this, my husband and I decided that if we ever have to travel with them again, we would rent our own place, so that we can have our own space and won’t have to worry about staying with them.
My in laws own a house in Europe, so we would have to rent our own place, which is an added cost. It would be an expensive trip, which I would rather spend on another European trip we are planning for the near future.
I feel guilty because his mom is calling it a “family trip” and I know my husband would love to go, but I can foresee things going very badly if we do. I don’t want to spend my time avoiding people and not enjoying our time there.

How long is the trip, and would you have to actually *travel* together, like take the same flights and taxis, or just stay in the same house? Is it a small house, like a little cottage where someone sleeps on the pullout couch, or one where everyone has their own bedroom and ensuite bath?
