Where I live in New York City, I have access to at least 54 channels, with only one being a duplicate. My antenna doesn’t have the best configuration, so the might be some I’m missing.

It’s basically as good as basic cable in America, and even has 1 dedicated weather channel and 1news channels. But it’s free. Some channels are broadcast in HD, while others are broadcast in SD.

Included in the lineup are a majority of English channels and a decent amount of Spanish channels with at least two Chinese channels.

LRT also broadcasts LRT Lituanica channel FTA on Astra 4A, aimed at diaspora. All of LRT channels are available online (together with Pūkas, Delfi TV and Current Time TV), others have non-linear streaming services.

Before the shutdown of analogue TV I was able to receive Polish TVP2 and TVP1 here in Kaunas. However, some TVP channels are easily available on satellite.

  2. So you mean: how many free-to-air channels does your country have?

One Belgian channel: “TV5 Monde” (the Belgian/French/Swiss version)

And then some foreign channels, especially a lot of German ones. Zero Dutch/Flemish channels. Antenna owners used to have three Flemish channels (Eén, Canvas, Ketnet), but those channels stopped in 2018 and are now only available via cable/satellite/internet.

  3. In Italy there are many free-to-air channels:

**RAI 1**: RAI – Radiotelevisione Italiana (Italian Radio and Television) is public television.

    **RAI 2**

    **RAI 3**

**Rete 4**: Run by Mediaset, the leading private television company, owned by Silvio Berlusconi.

    **Canale 5**: Mediaset

    **Italia 1**: Mediaset

**LA7**: Still private, but not managed by Mediaset, but by the publisher Cairo.

**TV 8**: Private, owned by Sky.

    **Nove**: Discovery Channel

    **Canale 20**: Mediaset

**RAI 4**: Semi-network, only films, cult series and animes

    **Iris**: Only auteur films, Mediaset

There are many others, but I will not list them all because there are too many.

All are network channels, except where specified.

  4. around 200. Most of them are pay-tv channels though. Free ota around 40 (southern Alps)

  5. Oh, no idea – it’s mostly cable/IP based in NL, I have no idea if we actually do over-the-air broadcasts at all here – never asked the question to myself in 20 years. You need to pay for the cable/IP service, but cable is mostly it’s kinda bundled with the internet. Something like 10 euro a month for KPN (the largest supplier) is the ‘declared’ cost for TV , but normally thrown in if you shop around.

Once you have that you get quite a lot – 50 or so in the basic package? – but that includes some BBC channels, German, Italian, various international news etc. It’s nothing like the US, the costs are minimal, the advertising is restricted heavily, cable is not really a topic of contention or particular discontent.

Internet costs are relatively high (for Europe), but when I say relatively high, I think the current costs – full price is 70 euro a month for a 1Gb fibre connection (but I pay 35 (including TV channels) on an offer) and will switch. Switching is easy (although the telcos do have a bit of a propensity to cock it up)

  6. Technically I can receive 96 different channels but a lot of those are HD versions of SD channels or time-delayed channels (i.e. the same content as another channel but delayed by an hour).

Edit: 95 of those are in English and 1 is in Scottish Gaelic. We also get a lot of repackaged American stations (the reverse of BBC America) like PBS America, CBS Drama, the Food Channel, the Smithsonian Network, etc.

  7. 62 channels, of which around 20 are free to air. some duplicate SD channels are included.

cable and IPTV are of course widely spread too.

  11. 10 free to air channels, 5 of them SD only. Practically unusable, but the corporations running the TV channels are greedy so I’m actually surprised that there’s anything more than the 4 national TV channels…

  12. Free to air:

ETV – Estonian Television. News, culture, classic movies, local gameshows etc. Honestly IMO the best channel

ETV2 – Also Estonian Television. Mostly documentaries, stuff for kids, older movies and reruns of stuff from ETV

ETV+ – Estonian Television in Russian

Tallinna TV – TV channel that was AFAIK funded by Estonian Centre Party and was meant for news about Tallinn. It was closed in 2020 and I only remember Viktor Vassiljev from there

    Paid:

Eesti Kristlik Televisioon – Estonian Christian television. Despite Estonia not having a large Christian population

Kanal 2 – Owned by M. Linnamäe, Estonian oligarch. Mostly trash-tier shows and foreign movies

TV3 – Owned by Viasat. Slightly better Kanal 2

    TV3+ – Russian TV3

TV6 – Owned by Viasat. Stuff for younger male audience mostly

Duo 4, formerly Kanal 11 – Sister channel of Kanal 2. Mostly stuff for women and reality shows

Alo TV – Estonian music channel

    KidZoneTV – cartoons

    Lolo TV – cartoons

Viasat History – History stuff, but everything is in English with Estonian subtitles

There are for sure more, but that’s all that comes to mind
