My boyfriend (42) got his first cold sore last night (lip presentation). Immediately got him some Abreva and we haven’t kissed since it appeared. I’m aware of how HSV-1 works (and that I (43) may have it now…oh well) and will avoid kissing his mouth and receiving oral sex. However, we have a VERY active sex life. I’ve been Googling all day but can’t find anything on if all sexual contact must be avoided or just anything that involves his mouth.

Are we actually going to have to abstain from intercourse for 2-3 weeks? That seems extreme.

  1. I would avoid oral sex. Also, taking zinc, Vitamin C, and L-Lysine may help control the outbreak and heal faster.
