Probably on strike 🙄
Not sure but you can always try and make your own Garam Masala by combining various toasted spices.
Garam masala is a spice blend, perhaps you could mix up something yourself? Cumin, coriander, black pepper, cardamon, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Even if you don’t have all of these, you could get close with some. In terms of ratios, more cumin than anything else and smaller amounts of the other stuff.
Did you try Asian supermarkets, your standard asda tesco morrisons and so on won’t have much of the stuff
Sometimes the spice mixes are separate from the spices, perhaps check if there’s another zone?
Just get a mild curry powder if there’s no garam masala, it won’t taste the same but you need to use something with depth.
Does your town have a ‘world food’ kinda independent supermarket? By which I mean the kind that usually has a sign outside listing all the nationalities they cater for. They generally have THE BEST selection of spices and if they don’t have garam masala then you can officially give up.
Oh and if you’ve got a decent size one, check out their range of pasta sizes and shapes, ALLLL the grades of bulghur wheat, deli meat, cheeses, sweets… seriously take lots of bags and organise transport home to carry all your treasures.
Ground all spice is NOT what you want.
Shake it up, Have a go making things with Ra’s al Hanout instead. Same idea, different continent.
It’s like oh, the shop did not have a ready made salad, they had all the ingrediants but I am not sure how to mix them so no salad today..
There is no right or wrong, use the ingredients in the quantities you prefer, if you don’t know what you prefer this is a perfect opportunity to learn. Cooking is like art, everyone has their own taste.
Idk where you are in the UK but I always been stocked for me at Sainsburys/Aldi
There are supply issues still everywhere I think. This may be one of the things affected. I’ve been trying to find dried fenugreek leaves for a while. They weren’t even in the international section of my nearest supermarkets. Can’t get to an Asian supermarket at the moment.
Anyway, I agree with those who suggest making your own garam masala. It’s really not hard at all and you won’t be risking things if you follow a good recipe.
I would recommend Chetna’s recipe. I find her recipes really reliable and I know make her dishes quite often.

That’s weird, I had the same issue recently. I was looking in an international food store, they had literally everything but garam masala! I ended up mixing a bunch of others to reasonable effect.
Any ethnic food shop will have it
Just been to sainsburys and they had huge bags of the stuff in the international aisle.. £2 definitely better value than the jar. Try there
I’ve never found it locally. Always gone to eBay.
Tescos always have it when I need it, might not be the greatest but its closest to me that has it
