What are some well known companies that Americans might not know are American?

1. Huy Fong Foods, maker of the popular sriracha sauce with the rooster on the bottle, is based in CA and was started by a Vietnamese immigrant.

   Jet Tila, chef and writer of the book 100 Asian Dishes You Need to Cook Before You Die, insists that this sauce is a poor imitation of the real sriracha, which is made in Thailand and can be found at your local Asian supermarket.

   Haven’t tested the theory, but will soon.

3. Häagen-Dazs ice cream was started in NYC.

   it’s not German or Swedish or whatever, in fact I think the name is complete made up nonsense iirc

4. Not really a company. But a product of one

   “Mexican Coke” is made in America for Americans. It gets imported to Mexico to sell in tourist spots to Americans.

5. Reese’s candies, I’ll send Reese’s candies to any foreigner who wants to be my friend.

6. this might just be me being stupid but I legit thought Saturn was a Japanese company until they were shut down by GM in 2008 or 2009. I was like damn really?

7. Founded in 1623, the Zildjian cymbal company relocated to Norwell Massachusetts in 1928.

8. I was surprised when I found out Motorola was American.

9. Not sure if this counts since they aren’t manufactured here, but I found out recently that Zodiac has been owned by Fossil for two decades now.

10. Arizona Iced Tea is from New York & Boston Market’s HQ is in Colorado.

11. I would say if you make your products in Asian, not exactly an American company.

13. I was surprised that Ruger was an American company, but they’re really good.

For a while (at least until about 2013, I think), Magnolia Ice Cream, a popular brand in the Philippines, was not the same as the Magnolia Ice Cream that was sold in stores here in the USA (and often bought by Filipino-Americans). The Magnolia trademark (and a logo identical to the Filipino one) was owned in the US by another dairy company, Ramar, who made “Magnolia Ice Cream” for sale in the US, taking advantage of those who bought it assuming that they were getting the genuine Filipino stuff.

    The owner of Magnolia in the Philippines sued, and the judge ruled in the Philippine company’s favor.

17. I’m not American but I’d say Cadbury’s. It was recently bought by Kraft and changed the recipes so badly that no one in the UK/Ireland likes it anymore. I can’t stand creme eggs anymore 😒 😤
