How would you pronounce the name Ciera? Does that change if it’s spelled Cierra, with two Rs?

  1. I would pronounce it like Sierra and two or one r wouldn’t matter.

In Spanish it would matter but not in English.

  2. When reading a names off a chart or list, with a spelling or pronunciation we’re not familiar with, we tend to imagine two ways of pronouncing it before enunciating our defeat and, etiquette begs the person having their name butchered to kindly correct us.

    As in

    “ (seer-a)?
    (see-air-uh)?

C: The name is pronounced see-air-uh.”

To be honest, I can see it being either. Many have opted unique pronunciations or spelling so this painful etiquette is how we ultimately would handle your kinda question lol

Key and Peele sketch where he hilariously
calls out names is a painfully common experience all around.

  3. I’d guess it’s meant to be either:

    – Kuh-Ear-Ah [Kira] (hard C)

    – Sea-Air-Ah [Sierra] (soft C)

I would definitely switch to exclusively Sierra if there was a double R since it becomes obviously a special spelling of Sierra.

  4. Keer-ah like Keira Knightly or Ciaran Hinds. But that’s because I’m familar with how they pronounce it across the pond. Americans will typically pronounce it sea-air-uh, like American musician Ciara.

  5. I’m a child of the generation that pronounced it Sierra…as in “Oldsmobile Cutlass.” Thanks for THAT memory.

  6. See-EH-rah.

I see people saying “air” and I’m wondering if Harry and hairy sound the same when they say it. For me they’re different.
