In the movie *National Treasure*, it always bothers me that they go over to Jon Voight’s house to uncover the map on the Declaration and he just so happens to have a large bowl of lemons in his fridge. It got me wondering if I’m the weird one for only ever having 1 or 2 lemons on hand at a time.

  1. Have some Lemon Juice. Lime as well. No actual fruit though.

Tea drinkers tend to have some Lemons on hand I imagine.

  2. Definitely. Or limes. Oranges in a pinch. Citrus is very underrated for cooking, cleaning, and deodorizing.

  3. Maybe. We get a couple Hello Fresh meals a week, and they sometimes include a lemon or lime for juice/zest. I don’t handle the ordering, so I can’t say for certain which meals are in the fridge now.

  4. Weirdly enough, I do. I normally don’t (unless I’m planning to make something that requires lemons) but a friend randomly had a bag of lemons when I saw him over the weekend and he pushed a couple on me.

  5. Yes, a bunch of lemons and a few limes. I use them mostly for water, but I like drinking Coke with a lemon slice too.

  6. I have a (Meyer) lemon tree, I bring in lemons as I need them.

sometimes it’s a lot, if I’m making lemonade. Maybe Jon Voigt was planning on making some lemonade that day.

  7. I keep them outside the fridge, but yeah, i’ve got a bowl of lemons and oranges most of the time.

For some reason, a bowl of lemons is one of those stock kitchen decor things that I see in movies and TV a lot.

  8. Mom really likes ice water with a couple of lemon wedges, so in the summer we frequently have six to eight lemons in the fridge since we do our shopping weekly. Lemons keep pretty well in the fridge and if they’re on sale I might buy two or three week’s worth, since having them encourages Mom to drink water and her meds are such that she really *needs* to drink more water than average.

The bowl in that particular movie was a little excessive, but, like, I’ve had that many lemons in my fridge before. So it suspends disbelief slightly less than the rest of that movie.

  9. No. I pretty much only have lemons if I need any for a specific recipe, and I can’t remember the last time I time I needed one for that purpose.

  10. For whatever reason, [a comically large amount of fruit](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQGLmg4-r0sD-pf4MK2g-IwCpp5SfCDQM0ayg&usqp=CAU) in the fridge is a common movie prop, sort of like the [paper grocery bag overflowing with unwrapped produce and a baguette](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQqG5Erea1Br4VcMW4ifz8Vqvreb_roHjx1sQ&usqp=CAU).

Most people don’t stock their kitchen or buy groceries that way, but I guess set/prop designers use them as a way to avoid showing any products with brand labels (or the conspicuous *absence* of brand labels)?

  11. I have lemons. I make sparkling-water lemonade regularly and lemon bars. I also like it in tea or sparkling water. And a bit of zest can really add something when cooking. They look nice, smell nice, and are pretty. This is a funny thing to have “always bothered you” imo lol.
