I’ve lived in 3 different countries in the last 12 years. I’ve found a new level of respect for immigration consultants. Initially I thought I could figure out all the rules myself but I soon discovered that expert advise is key.
Some countries do not allow change of visa status while living in said country. Secondly, security and criminal records are a deal breaker – you have to physically travel and present yourself.

Try speaking to your MP. It may help.
The UK also like to see that you can financially support her. I think you have to earn x amount of money. I take it your solicitor is a specialist in this area.
