Huge battle in our house. My wife prefers the counter height chair with the back attached. Cushiony and nice. I prefer the barstools. They slide right under the overhang of the peninsula and they’re easy to sit on. Love a regular bar stool. What about you?

  1. Not sure if I’m alone here but I like to sit on a bar stool that swivels in a 360 so I have a full view of my surroundings

  2. Barstool both for sitting and aesthetics. The height chair has a deceptive back on it that is useless, and the back will add one more colour, shape and texture to the interior. The barstool will allow for a cleaner view across the room since your eyes don’t have to account for the height chair back as well.

I don’t know if I explained that well, in other words I prefer cleaner lines and to see less in a room than to see more. Barstool is less.

  3. Bar stool with very short back – can still be tucked outer – stops guys from straddling it – give you that reminder that your ass is too far back creating instability when drunk with the short back.

  4. A regular chair, I feel like is aesthetically pleasing. But the barstools are also aesthetically pleasing, but practical. Easy to slide out of the way.

  5. Stool with back. Also like having neat stools to add to design. No reason they have to match.

  6. Both suck, but if you’ve gotta sit at the island, a stool with a back that also swivels. You don’t need the tucked-in-stool space that desperately.

  7. Barstool, because they’re not permanent seating. You just plonk down for a couple of minutes to have a snack or whatever.

  8. Aesthetically the bar stools are nicer, but the counter height chairs are more comfortable. Unless your family plans on spending a lot of time on the peninsula, I would opt for the barstools

  9. Counter height chair. Way more comfortable and ours slide the whole way under the counter, up to where the chair back hits the edge of the counter

  10. Within the confines of your question – a bar stool, but one with a padded seat.

Who are these crazies leaning back in a counter height chair? I’d be afraid of falling.

  11. Chair with a back. I have terrible posture so if there is no back, I really have to work at sitting up straight and it’s just not comfortable

  12. I prefer bar stools. They’re just easier to hide away when not using. But we have ones with backs that are basically bar chairs. They’re nicer than our dining room chairs. When you use it, they’re much nicer to sit in, but the one seat is where our son eats breakfast every day and the other one usually has too much stuff on the counter in front of it to use it.

  13. Haha I guess when I think bar stool I’m thinking drinking and needing support! We will gather around the island for hours having drinks and chats so it can get tiring when there’s a bunch of people. Sometimes I would love to go lay down!
