It’s common in pop culture to leave something for Santa and his Reindeer. Most often it’s cookies and milk along with some vegetables for the reindeer.

Has your country got any interesting twists on that tradition?

In Ireland we always leave a carrot for Rudolf the Reindeer and we leave a mince pie and a can of Santa’s alcohol beverage of choice.

  1. In Hungary Santa doesn’t come on Christmas. The Baby Jesus brings the presents. We open them on Christmas Eve.
Mikulás, Saint Nicholas is celebrated on his saint’s day, December 6th. On that day you clean your winter boot and put it in the window. In the morning of the 6th there’s a bag of sweets in it. Usually there’s a chocolate shaped like Saint Nick. If you’re bad, then Krampus puts a golden stick in there instead of sweets.

  2. I spent most of my life growing up in the UK. We would leave a carrot for Rudolph too and milk and cookies for Santa.

However, when I was old enough to know Santa wasn’t quite real, we still left a carrot and then a glass of whiskey (as suggested by my step dad of course 😂) just for the fun of it.

  3. Nothing. Kids just have to be kind and Christmas eve after supper the gift is under the tree. It’s there all evening but you can open after the supper. But there is no gift for him

That was Poland. In the Netherlands kids leave carrots for the horse of sinterklaas. On december 5th.
