Do some people find a lack of interest attractive?

Weird title, but hear me out. I’ve (M21) been asked out about half a dozen times, and every single time it was someone who I found particularly unattractive, not just neutral or average. I’m wondering if I could have been making this more likely to happen. I tend to be overly formal, maybe even bordering on cold when I’m interacting with people I find unattractive, just so I don’t give them the wrong idea. Could this be working against me, or is it unrelated? Should I apply the strategy when talking to people I do like and see if it works that way as well?
