i had a ton and neither of them worked
i just think LDR is either a thing when you know you’ll meet soon, or it’s a super rare case of actually being in an LDR and being happy for years, not sure
Same as any other. Communication, openness, love, trust.
I didn’t, I need something physical
Lots of communication, an end goal, and planned visits between.
Gotta be an end date when it’s no longer “long distance”.
It will only work if you and your partner are actually committed to making it work.
Stubbornness, patience and executing a plan to stop being long term.
That’s the neat part, you don’t.
LDR that starts off that way is very likely to fail. On rare occasions people may meet and move in but you are playing lottery odds. Not something I would suggest for a romantic future. If you are just messing around, go nuts. If you want a life partner of sorts, I’d suggest looking locally and if you’ve exhausted all avenues of local…it might be you. Might not be a bad thing to not get along with people near you enough to make a connection. Lots of dumb people out there that you just can’t have a conversation with, often times, they are in large clusters.
Ultimately it doesn’t work for me as I’m very touch oriented. Physical proximity is crucial or else it doesn’t feel like a relationship at all.
But if you can make it work, you need to have a plan to be together. If are just long distance indefinitely, it’s going to fail.
Lots of commutation. We talked on the phone for about an hour every day and we saw each other in person every weekend. We were about a 2 hour drive apart.
I would never date someone long term that lived more than 3-4 hours away. I live in a medium sized city (600k metro) and their are 2 larger metros 2-3 hours away, so I did a ton of driving to go on dates when I was single in my 20s.
