Does anyone else experience this? Sometimes I can be random, funny, spontaneous, but usually when I’ve had a few drinks or I really really know the person.
I just give up, because after an amount of time I go blank and end up just nodding along or staring off into oblivion.

  1. Conversational Flow is a skill, and it’s easy to do once you get the hang of it. For what other people say you LINK to it, with a relevant comment, question or insight of your own. Eye contact/occasional nodding tells the other person you’re interested. (eye contact is not 100 percent, more like 60)

For yourself start paying attention to what happens during your week that’s ‘worth a mention.’ It doesn’t have to be anything big or earth-shattering. It’s helpful if it has a human interest element, something that makes it a little interesting.

e.g. Yesterday I passed a fast food restaurant that had three cop cars with flashing lights in the parking lot. I wondered what was up. Then I noticed on the street nearby two MORE cop cars, and beyond them FOUR additional ones!

Okay THAT many cop cars turns into Speculation Land. Something interesting I saw locally, worth mentioning in conversation (like, what the heck?!), and I could run through a few outrageous ideas as to what might’ve been going on.

Keep it fun, keep light. Just enjoy yourself!
