I seem to get BV or a UTI nearly every other time my husband and I have sex. We use only water based lube, and from what I’m reading here, glycerin in lube can cause infections. Our water based lube we use has these ingredients-

•Deionized water
•Polyoxyethylene
•Sodium-carbomer
•Phenoxyethanol
•Ethylhexylglycerin

Are any of these ingredients possibly a culprit of my infections? We don’t use condoms, and I’ve been on the same birth control pills for 7 years. We’ve both been tested and neither of us have any STDs or STIs, I just seem to be sensitive down there and get an infection of some kind nearly everytime we have sex and it’s ruining my sex drive.

I also wanted to look into the coconut oil as lube path, but I can’t find any information on if you can use Fractionated coconut oil or not, as that’s what I have at home.

  1. Im not a chemist, but I would say that is correct.

As for coconut oil, yes it makes an excellent natural lubricant.

  2. It’s a compound containing glycerin but I don’t know if bacteria can use it as a food source cause once you start binding stuff chemically together it changes their properties. I’d change lubes to see if you get a different reaction id avoid anything containing sugars. Why only use water based and not other kinds?

Edit: did a small bit of research and Ethylhexylglcerin impairs the cell membrane integrity of microbes and in fact makes chemicals like phenoxyethanol more lethal to microbes
