How do you keep your hair silky and soft? Do you have any go-to products or techniques?

  1. Don’t process (dye/perm/straighten) your hair

    Avoid heat/blow drying

    Cold rinse after washing hair

    Eat healthy and exercise

  2. Avoid silicones in your hair products. It’s in everything from shampoo and conditioner to styling products. Anything ending “cone” is trashing your hair. Detoxing from them takes a bit and my hair definitely didn’t look it’s best in the process.

  3. Use a filter on your shower head that reduces the effects of hard water and use a shampoo that clarifies similarly (with respect to hard water, chlorine and other chemicals/minerals).

  4. Avoid heat styling whenever possible

Drink a lot of water and eat as healthy as you can

I keep my hair in a bun or braided when I sleep, in cold weather or while exercising to avoid breakage

I like Davines shampoo and conditioner, I alternate between Love and OI. After washing I finish with smoothing serum and conditioner/uv protection spray

Take care when brushing, go easy and gentle

Every other month I do a scalp mask and a hair mask to cleanse and soften

  5. Finish hair washing with a final rinse with 1/2 to 1 cup of white vinegar in a pitcher of water.

  6. Hair grows out of your body and its health starts on the inside with good nutrition and caring for your body.

Avoid silicones, sulfates, parabens, waxes and the like. Anything that coats the hair for an artificial shine will damage hair in the long run. Use sunscreen and uv protectant made for hair. Use high quality products that don’t damage or cause buildup. Be aware of the low quality brands such as Cantu, Pantene, Suave and similar. Read ingredients.

Use heat protectant and use heat tools as little as possible. Blow drying isn’t damaging if you use low heat and diffuse when possible. Avoid chemical processing, bleach, and dyes that are damaging. Protect hair from the elements like wind, chlorine and sun. Protect when sleeping by using silk or satin pillowcase, a bonnet, putting it up or braiding.

  7. Among diet and water, some products that I go for and avoid:

    – use hair masks once ever two weeks

    – shampoo and conditioner your hair once in two days (but if your hair easily gets greasy you can everyday, like me)
I use L’Oreal Elvive shampoos and conditioners because they smell like HEAVEN and they make my hair so soft!!!
On the other hand, I avoid dove because it makes my hair greasy.

After I wash my hair, I pat it dry and let it dry for a little, after which I apply Argan hair oil (twice a week, please don’t do it everyday). If you need any advice on a product I go for L’Oreal ELVIVE extraordinary argan hair oil, depending on how long/thick your hair is, the amount you use varies. I take 3-4 small pumps.

It feels like a lot of product but I would recommend spacing it out to make sure you don’t use product everyday and overuse it, also those products are personal preferences. My hair used to be rough and weak but I’ve seen progress when I used it.
