In a quest to be more social, I’ve started talking to a lot of people in the gym. A lot of people are happy with my attempts to socialize. The next time they see me, they open up and it turns out to be a fulfilling experience.

But, sometimes I’m unable to recognize them or remember their names because I’m churning through a lot of people (or my memory is too bad). And, it rightfully offends them. And some people feel disenchanted because they don’t feel special anymore as they realize I talk to lots of people.

  1. You could try remembering them by phrases that mix their name with a trait, eg. Chris The Rower, Dark Haired Dave, Posh Mike

Or if they’re coming over to talk to you the second time you can say “hey! Dave, right?” At the start of the conversation

  2. Rightfully, they shouldn’t be offended unless you knew each other for a long period of time. Actually, at that point people would be more confused. It’s reasonable to not have perfect recollection, nobody remembers every person they met. Just ask them what their name is again.
