This may sound dumb, but I’m really sick of the cycle of “meet someone as friend or date, go somewhere to drink, sit and talk, maybe have sex (if it’s a date), watch stuff and depart”.

For example I got this idea of playing badminton, a sport that doesn’t require training or much energy. We may also chat while knitting together (tho idk how to knit, it’s a cool thing to do with a friend).

What are some fresh ideas to spend time socially?

PS: I know about going to movies, concerts or exhibitions etc. but they are usually dependant on established activites. What to do with friends or dates that are fun and not things we are extremely, boringly used to?

  1. I know the exact type of situation you’re talking about.

You go out with your friends/new friends, go to your typical bar, get a drink and proceed to talk about nothing very important every 5 minutes, followed by another 5 minutes of staring at your phones, order drinks and repeat.

I try to avoid this at all costs because i get bored very easily. I frequent a pub with my friends that has a pool(i mean like billiards) and we play every time. Not only do we have fun, but conversation comes out more naturally because it has a context(i think).

We also sometimes go out and try to meet other people, even if sometimes it comes out horribly akward.

But sometimes you’re just in that situation and there is no escape. You need to learn to relax, and enjoy boredom. We are so used nowadays to be engaged in constant activities, that even stopping for one second feels very long.

Try people watching(without being creepy). Try looking at things you look normally, but intentionally look for hidden details you never found. Get inside your head and fantasize about whatever. Ask stupid questions to your friends. Bother your friends.

  2. Try going for a bike ride, having a picnic at a park, cooking dinner, going thrifting, visiting museums/zoos/water parks, or any combination of the above. If it is someone you know, a short road trip is usually fun.

  3. You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friends nose.
    That’s about all I knows.
