There’s no toilet but there’s no rule stopping you from shutting the doors and doing a hot steaming poo in one of the pans. I find £100 a day for that honour an absolute steal. Hearing everyone outside going about their day whilst gently coaxing out a fat one with a wooden spatula is almost euphoric.
Wife finds it bloody annoying and wants to go on a normal holiday, but that beach hut desire is unstoppable.
Location, location, location!
Beach huts in Southwold have sold for £150k.
Ours back in the 90s had electric and water. No toilet though, you’d have to walk down to the toilet block or do a sneaky wee in the sea.
I remember going with my grandparents. We’d get down there fairly early and grandma packed everything but the kitchen sink. A full buffet of picnic food, beach umbrella, deck chairs, windbreaker e.t.c. It was good fun. And you had a private place to change out of your swimming costume.
It was probably considerably cheaper to rent one back then than it is today though.
Edit: I’m now realising through my foggy memory that these were not technically beach huts but chalets on the promenade. Hence why they had electric and running water. They’re actually still pretty cheap!
I’ve got one this weekend!
Brill way to spend the day at the beach, somewhere to store items you don’t need to carry up and down, and a very sociable way to meet strangers!
There were numerous people walking past who peeked in for a nosy and said good morning, met a lot of gorgeous dogs and some lovely kids.
Tomorrow I have about 12 friends coming down to paddle board/kayak or just chill and shoot the breeze. On the menu is bacon butties and Prosecco – proper lush!
Water tap is nearby, toilets are a short walk away and there’s a gas canister stove inside – you only need the basics.
