I’m sitting here at home, bored with nothing to do so I thought I’d pose this question to AskUK to see what the community think.

  1. London would be David Beckham. Incredibly famous, a global icon, disliked and mocked by some in the UK (perhaps even appreciated more abroad than at home), and a bit too closely associated with dodgy money in recent years.

Birmingham would be Matthew Macfadyen. Came to prominence a while ago. Then went through a period of relative decline. In recent years has emerged to be actually very good, but that fact hasn’t yet truely broken through to national consciousness.

Manchester would be Robbie Williams. Culturally influential in the 90s. Less so now, but undeniably wealthier and a well known part of the national landscape. Sometimes comes across as a bit insecure and striving too much for appreciation.
