Like, generic buckets. I just got a new one today and it made me realize that I’ve kind of been accumulating them since buying a house last year. I think I’ve got about 10 now? They’re all being used but it still feels like a lot.

Edit: Sounds like I’m not alone in having a lot of buckets. For what it’s worth, most of them are Homer’s All Purpose 5-gallon buckets. In fact, that’s what I picked up today.

  1. 3, 4 if you count the one that’s permanently full of litter for cleaning up fluid spills in the garage.

  2. You’re supposed to have 2 buckets if you wash your car by hand. One for soapy water, one to clean off the sponge. I have 2 with grit guards at the bottom.

  3. Two(ish), one true bucket for using, one bucket turned into a dust collector for woodworking. but it is at my parents. I don’t have my workshop at my apartment.

  4. I went to go count and gave up after the first dozen, as I kept finding more around. So the correct answer is I have one less than I need.

  5. LOL, I have a lot of 5 gallon buckets. Funny you would bring this up. Maybe 20 total? I use buckets for storing bulk kitchen stuff like rice, flower, sugar, etc. I use some for planting or carrying water around to plantings. I modified some to work as root feeders for trees. You can buy these spikes that go through a hole you cut in the bottom of the bucket. You stick it in the ground and fill the bucket with your nutrient/water mix and it feeds the roots of a tree over time.

I also use some for mashing and fermentation (beer, wine, spirits..)

I have a bunch of old cooking oil and fat that I will eventually be trying to make diesel out of. So I’ll use buckets for that.

Some of the buckets are from Home Depot. Some are empty cat litter containers.

  6. At least a dozen. Favorites are the galvanized one my small garden tools are in and the small “sand castle” ones I use for all kinds of mixing and soaking. Least favorites are the tool buckets with the cloth pocket liners (can never find anything) and the swimming pool bucket (always cracking). Nicest are the car wash buckets, one for soapy water, the other to rinse the sponge in…

  7. At some point Home Depot got rid of small handheld baskets and instead put buckets everywhere. That’s my source.

  8. Every time I am buying a bunch of small parts from Lowe’s, I grab a bucket as my shopping basket and then buy the bucket.

At this point, I probably have 20+ buckets, though some are filled with concrete, others have plants in them, some are holding crushed cans or random spare parts, etc. They’re cheap and have lots of uses.

  9. That’s an unanswerable question. I’ve a fair amount of them that are UV perished enough that observing them would collapse the waveform – or the bucket.

  10. 1 Generic Home Depot bucket. Use it now as a make shift garbage can in my work truck. Doesn’t get dirty because all that goes in it is water bottles and random granola bar/cracker wrappers but I’ll wipe it out with a Lysol wipe whenever I dump it usually once or twice a week.

  11. I have two that I keep in my car—an empty one for sitting on when I’m working outside, and one that holds my most-used work tools (or ones that I don’t use often, but often enough that I like them being handy). I’ve got two or three more in the house.

  12. probably 20 or so.

you can get the white ones that are marked as food-safe. then get a sealing lid. ( it is 2 parts, one snaps on to the top and the other screws onto it making it air-tight)

I often use them to store rice, lentils, flour.

I have another orange one that is for used motor oil and I bring it in every now and then.

all the others act as random parts / tools / storage.

  13. About 30-40. I do recycle metal, (home shop) and general contaiment. I had a friend who stained deck and bought it in bucket, so I got them for free

  14. Maybe like 2 or 3? I got a couple to catch water when some pipe was leaking.

I figure if I ever get the firepit working I can use them to douse the fire.

I had to throw out one that a mouse died in, too gross to reuse.

  15. I had 4 think I’m down to 2…yeah one was so old it sorta just fell apart and one my sister took.

  16. Probably 80 or so. 50 in various long term parts storage duties, and the other 30 in use on repairs or cleanup, feeding etc.

    I’m a farmer, so I *need* buckets.

And I’ve never bought one in my life. They come find me. Usually with oil or antifreeze in them.

  17. I usually keep 25-30 empty 5 gallon oil pails and 2 55 gallon barrels in the corner of my shop for storing fuel, antifreeze or hydraulic oil I plan on reusing after reassembling whatever I drained it out of.

  18. I’ve got 10 that are modified into hydroponic grow buckets (see post on my profile if you’re curious). Those are all pickle buckets from firehouse subs. One used oil bucket, and a few other random buckets. Mostly the Homer ones or the Lowes equivalent.

  19. I buy kitty litter in buckets and have a dozen empty buckets in my garage. They come in handy from time to time.
