I’m currently reading a comic called the steel ball run. It’s a western set in the 1800s where there is a huge horse race from one side of America to the other. Has there ever been anything like this where a race starts on one side of America and eventually makes its way all the way to the other side. Not even a horse race like a motorcycle, car race, cycle or even as far fetched as it would be on foot(with a lot of checkpoints of course). Do you think anything like would happen if it hasn’t already happened?

Not exactly a race, but there is a record of 25 hours, 39 minutes by car. This is an informal record since it’s in blatant violation of speed limits.

There is something called the [Cannonball Run,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannonball_Run_challenge) which is an attempt to travel from New York City to Los Angeles in the shortest time possible. It has mostly been done via car but some attempts have been done via motorcycle. It’s a time trial, so competitors race against the clock, rather than starting at the same time.
Interestingly, this isn’t the longest distance race in the US. There’s something called the [Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-Transcendence_3100_Mile_Race) which is a footrace that’s about 200 miles longer than the Cannonball Run. However, that takes place over a fairly small path than runners repeat 5,649 times.
There have also been some individuals who have run across the continental US on their own, but as you’d expect, very few people would attempt to accomplish that. [Pete Kostelnick](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Kostelnick) holds the record for fastest time running from coast to coast across the continental US (42 days, 6 hours, & 30 minutes).
By what method? The fastest anyone has transited the US was in the SR-71 Blackbird and the time was 68:17 minutes.
There are at least two annual cross-country bicycle races. The [Race Across America](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_Across_America) is the older and more famous one. There’s also the newer [Trans Am Bike Race](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans_Am_Bike_Race), which takes a different route from coast to coast and has no support crews.
A horse race across the US sounds awfully *bizarre* if you ask me OP.
Cannonball runs are a thing but you’re always breaking road rules, people have done fastest cross country flyover at times in history but I don’t think it’s really been done now that supersonic flight over the US has been largely curtailed.
