Hello
We are going to be moving house soon and I wanted to get your thoughts on how to ensure there is parking available outside our new house when we get there.
It is on an unrestricted parking road, so I can’t book any parking bays with the Council (I have already checked this with them). The current owners have already moved out.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and what worked for you? I have terrible thoughts of having to knock on neighbours doors on removal day. I hope there’s another way!
Thank you

  1. Just speak to the people next door, they’re probably alright chaps. Plus you’ll be likely doing the majority of the work during the day when cars might be away as people are at work

  2. My new neighbours knocked to introduce themselves and warn us there would be a van, and asked nicely if I wouldn’t mind parking a bit down the road.

I offered to wait for their van to turn up and move, effectively saving the space.

If you have to double park would there be room for cars to pass?

  3. You could speak to them the day before to move cars, it is even fairly acceptable practice to reserve the spot with bins for moving days. Only moving days though. Worst case is the van blocks the road for a bit if cars can’t be moved.

Heavens forbid you have to meet your new neighbours!!

If you’re that concerned then it’s probably a good idea to go and speak to them ahead of moving in to let them know that you’ll need the spaces, would they mind if you put something in the road etc

  5. I’m in the middle of planning my move and the removal company says they just dump the van where they can! They didn’t even care about borrowing the visitors parking permit. We’ll see what happens on the actual day though.

  6. Surely it’s the removal companies problem? They’re getting paid for it I assume?
