I am not talking about small things like people or places featured, but more general things like

\- should there be tactile features (raised dots / lines to help the blind feel the note to know the value)

\- should it be of different sizes, slightly larger as value goes up

\- should it be of different colors, or just one

\- should it be made of polymer (plastic) ?

\- should there be a 1 dollar note, or should it be cancelled and replaced with a one dollar coin

  1. I’d like to see different colors, and maybe make them more plastic. Absolutely no dollar coins, I hate getting those in Europe and Canada.

  2. The dollar is perfect and just looks like freedom and democracy. Wouldn’t change anything except the disability bit.

  3. I find coins more interesting than bills, so I’d personally prefer dollar coins to replace dollar bills (and probably two dollar coins and maybe even five dollar coins), but I’m absolutely in the minority on this one. Most Americans hate dollar coins.

  4. I’d like the first, possibly different colors, no to different sizes and heck no to dollar coins: we tried that once it went poorly.

  5. The tactile features are really needed. I’d be opened to different colors. I’ve seen some good designs that aren’t monopoly money looking (oh wait, that’s just the Canadian Dollar)

Edit: In the UK Northern Ireland and Scotland can print different designs. I think it’d be cool if every state got to customize the $20 with their person of choosing.

  6. I think US currency is fine the way it is. I’m fine with advancing security features as time goes on to prevent counterfeiting, but mostly I think they should be left alone. To answer specific questions.

    >- should there be tactile features (raised dots / lines to help the blind feel the note to know the value)

If they can figure out a way to do it economically and it lasts the lifetime of the bill then sure.

    >- should it be of different sizes, slightly larger as value goes up

Absolutely not. I hated this about euro bills when I was in Germany.

    >- should it be of different colors, or just one

I think green should stay the primary color, but I kind of like the subtle color variations they’ve added in the latest designs.

    >- should it be made of polymer (plastic) ?

No, I see no benefit to that. [Plastic bills](https://www.rba.gov.au/publications/bulletin/2015/sep/7.html) don’t last significantly longer than US [paper bills](https://www.federalreserve.gov/faqs/how-long-is-the-life-span-of-us-paper-money.htm).

    >- should there be a 1 dollar note, or should it be cancelled and replaced with a one dollar coin

We tried $1 coins and no one used them. Seems pretty clear the US in general doesn’t want that and I agree with that sentiment. I hate carrying change around.

  7. Whatever changes, they had better stay green. Foreigners ask “why the hell are *all* your bills green?” and we be like “why the hell shouldn’t they be? It’s called the Greenback for a reason!”

I could live with slightly different tints and hues of green for different denominations. But only *slightly.*

  8. >- should there be tactile features (raised dots / lines to help the blind feel the note to know the value)

Yes. This is useful to sighted people too, as much as different colors.

    >- should it be of different sizes, slightly larger as value goes up

    No.

    >- should it be of different colors, or just one

To paraphrase a line from a *Magic: The Gathering* anthology, money is green. Green and powerful.

As an aside, it greatly bothered me that I needed to type that in full in order to avoid confusion with Marjorie Taylor Greene.

If they can take “MTG” from us I fear what’s next.

    >- should it be made of polymer (plastic) ?

No. I’m not in the habit of letting money get wet.

    >- should there be a 1 dollar note, or should it be cancelled and replaced with a one dollar coin

Possibly. Add a $2 coin as well.

  9. Yes to the first one and maybe the dollar coin. No to changing colors or design, it’s too iconic. I think our notes look much better than the plastic Monopoly money some other countries have

  10. Tactile definitely, and color variations are also something I’d be in favor of.

No to different sizes and to coins. I like coins, but they’re generally inconvenient.

The main thing I’d like to see is more variation in what’s depicted on the bills. Founding fathers/Presidents are fine and all but there are other people of significant impact to American history. Far more than that, though, I’d want to see our currency depicting things other than monuments and buildings of significance to our founding. Nods to our technological and social achievements, our vast and diverse geographical beauty.

  11. More colors, remove traces of the word ‘God’ to keep the separation of church and state.

  12. Just go ahead and throw some fictional characters on there.

Pikachu, Goku, Optimus Prime, Bart Simpson, Spongebob

  13. Tactile features would be ok, but is this something that the disabled community is asking for?

Visual redesign is ok, much like the quarter program over the last few decades.

The rest is needless, a solution searching for a problem.

  14. >should it be of different sizes, slightly larger as value goes up

The cost to society if doing this would make it such a waste. Vending machines, ATMs, every single cash register would all need to be retrofitted to accommodate the change

Already done, it’s raised numbers on the front. But yes, it should be there. Making it more distinctive by touch wouldn’t hurt.

    >- should it be of different sizes, slightly larger as value goes up

Maybe, could an extra way to tell them apart by touch.

Different. The variety of colors they use now are fine.

    >- should it be made of polymer (plastic) ?
    >

No. The fabric we use now lasts long enough (years) and doesn’t contribute to added plastic waste.

    >- should there be a 1 dollar note, or should it be cancelled and replaced with a one dollar coin

Absolutely a dollar bill. We’ve got dollar coins, for a little while they were legislated to be minted in high quantities and actually circulated. Everyone hated them.
