It said that most ppl feel joy throughout their day. Second love and third anxiety.

They feel joy most of their day, then loved the second most and anxiety.

How true is this? Do you guys feel like this?

  1. that sounds like total bullshit, no way most people are walking around happy for a majority of the time, personally anxiety is the foremost emotion for me

  2. If you linked to the article it would help.

One issue is that the way we perceive we have felt in retrospect and how we feel in the moment are different. They do studies sometimes where they have people respond almost in realtime about how they are feeling. Now they can use cell phones for this, in the past they had to use beepers! They found that for example, while watching tv is associated with pleasure, actually people report feeling better at work than they report feeling while watching tv.

(Side note: I think tv is great for relaxation, it’s like emotional sleep.)

Personally, my normal life usually gives me a lot of joy, although it’s of the subtle variety that people would usually name contentment. Small and cumulative orderly or harmonious things being just the way I like them (and if not I can change them), interests and activities that I enjoy a lot, relationships where we pursue what we both like. When I pursue something new, it’s usually something I enjoy or that serves me. I’m not leaping around all the time going “I must SING with JOY! Tra la LAAAAA!” I’m especially aware of how my life usually works since visits over the holidays unsettled my usual and I’m still trying to settle back into that.

Love, also, depends how it’s defined. A lot of people live with kids and pets that are easy to love, spouses that are semi easy to love, and after that some people who live with family and roommates will love them too. Some people even feel what might be categorized as love for coworkers and clients etc, again depending on how it’s defined.
