Why do I hate this question so much??? “Fun” is subjective. What is the point of asking this question? I don’t think me telling someone I enjoy reading or sleeping will help then get to know me. They are asking about your hobbies to see if they align with theirs. It helps create common ground for furthering the conversation when you’re both interested in the same things.
It’s also a kickstart to future dates (book clubs, cooking classes, etc).
I’d consider that if this is really bothering you, that you are either dating too quickly (speed dating) or just a little too easily frustrated.
it’s nice to be with someone who enjoys doing some of the same things I do. I automatically have someone to go kiting, surfing, skiing, or cooking. I know he hates trivia, so I have other friends for that. I also like to read, and I have other people to talk about books with me.
