Lots of them I would guess. I wouldn’t really know since I live in America
I don’t believe Dazed and Confused had much of an international release, of at all. Great, classic “coming of age” movie
How would we know what isn’t known in the rest of the world?
American Pie: Band Camp
Rambo maybe?
I’d expect movies like The Sandlot and Field of Dreams (where baseball is central to the plot) that have little cultural connection elsewhere to be on the list. I’d have to brainstorm other possibilities of subjects that are fairly distinct to the US.
There’s a lot of movies out there. I lived in Thailand and saw many. But I don’t think nearly anyone would know what’s popular in the USA and virtually unheard of overseas.
Most American movies are probably unknown, I’d say. Here are a few suggestions:
– Big Trouble in Little China
– The Sandlot
– Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
– The Cannonball Run
– A Christmas Story
I did some Google searches and came up dry. There are lots of domestic flops that were hits overseas. But I can’t find any domestic hits that flopped overseas.
I’m thinking along the lines of our more indie comedies that made a splash. Something like Super Troopers.
Or older comedies like National Lampoon stuff.
How would I know what’s known elsewhere?
