Fellow Americans, is the word “realtors” supposed to be pronounced “real-tors” or “real-it-ors”?

  1. Mostly, I hear it pronounced “real-it-ors.” But I think there’s some national licensing body that stresses “real-tors” as correct. Like, in some sort of trademark-protecting way, maybe?

  2. Anything added between “real” and “tors” is erroneous. Just like when people say “ath-uh-lete” when the word is “ath-lete,” or “Tee-uh-wana” when the name is “Tee-hwana.”
