Are sandwiches typically a lunch or dinner meal? I dont get how subs and burgers are enough to keep you stuffed?

  1. Subs: lunch, hamburgers: dinner. Subs in America are 12 inches long (30.5 cm) and a lot of people eat 2 burgers

  2. Could be both. They’re generally pretty big And they usually come with a side of chips or fries or something like that.

  3. Either lunch or dinner. Sandwiches in the US tend to be hefty, just like some of us. They’re not wee, dainty tea sandwiches with trimmed-off crusts. Many sandwiches can be so filling that people commonly order a half sandwich, especially if it comes with salad or a small bowl of soup.

  4. Yes you can have one any time if you are an adult. Why not.

I wouldn’t serve a sandwich to a guest at breakfast or dinner, though. It’s more of a lunch thing or maybe a snack.

Depends how large the sandwich or burger is. Those can be quite filling but they are often accompanied by a starch, like fries or chips. And a beverage. Maybe a salad.

Also might depend how hungry you are.

  5. Subs and burgers can easily have 8 ounces (~0.25 kg) of meat in them, plus cheese, and the bread. That, plus any side items is sufficient for most folks for either lunch or dinner.

  6. Well as a American it depends on the person. I’d say it’s a all time food. Breakfast sandwhich, lunch a cheesesteak and dinner some burgers and fries. It transcends time

  7. Have you seen the size of some of our burgers and sandwiches? It can be lunch or dinner, and they can be very filling.

  8. I’d say in the most general way sandwiches (implying cold cuts, cheese, veggies on bread) are a lunch food, and burgers (implying a cooked ground beef patty with toppings) are a dinner food. To be fair they are certainly interchangeable and my gf and I regularly have sandwiches for dinner usually with a side salad or soup.

As far as being stuffed. Maybe we use the word differently? Stuffed to many Americans means completely full. I use the term stuffed when I’m borderline too full of food. Most people (contrary to popular belief and especially for lunch) eat to the point where they are satisfied but comfortable enough to continue to do stuff like work after lunch or finish house chores after dinner.

A sandwich with 1/4lb meat, a slice of cheese, veggies, dressing and two slices of bread can easily be 500 calories. Throw in a cup of soup, or some sort of snack and a reasonable well balanced lunch turns into 600-700 calories. More than enough for a single meal.

As far as burgers go especially from a restaurant. A 1/3 lb burger, French fries with ketchup and a soda can easily be 1000+ calories. Again MORE than enough for a single meal.

  9. If I eat an 8 inch grinder from a local place back home in Mass at 1pm for lunch I’m good for the rest of the day because they’re huge. A 12 inch, that’s food for two days.

  10. It really depends on the situation. A sub can go either way, but I think it’s more common as a lunch? As for a burger, I would say the defining factor is quality. For gourmet, you would get it at dinner. Mediocre cafeteria burger is more lunch, and fast food is both. But don’t eat too many. Now, things get even more complicated if you mean ALL sandwiches. But I think I can break that down too.

The easiest defining factor in many cases is temperature. If it’s cold, it’s probably a lunch sandwich. Examples, pb and j, deli meats/cold cuts
If it’s hot meat, it’s probably dinner. Burgers, pulled pork,
Then there are ones that go either way and break every aforementioned rule. Hotdogs or grilled cheese, for example.

  11. Why would the designation of “sandwich” make something not filling? You could put 10 pounds of meat between some bread and it would be a sandwich. It’s about what’s in the sandwich. Bread with a single thin slice of turkey would not be very filling.

  12. Show me links to these subs and burgers you think aren’t enough. They’re almost always lunch for us no matter what size they are. And you can always get double meat to ensure it’s filling.

  13. Many subs and burgers have more calories than anyone needs for an entire day.

  14. Sandwiches are typically a lunch food in my experience, but burgers can often be a common exception for a dinner food. I’ve never complained about a sandwich not being sufficiently filling for lunch (though smaller sandwiches like PB&J I normally have two), and a decent sized burger (1/3-1/2 lb) with fries is enough for a decent, though unhealthy, dinner.

  15. sandwiches can be fuckin HUGE and triple stacked lmao they can be very filling. so can burgers. also we typically eat with a side like fries, chips, or salad

  16. Either or. We have some big ass sandwiches and some big ass burgers. They’re also usually served with some sort of chips or fries on the side.

  17. Lunch. Also, what do you mean “subs and burgers”? I know burgers I can’t even fit in my mouth!
