I have a close friend who I talk to about anything and everything and recently whenever I message about something I’m excited about or something I find interesting they respond with simply “okay?”. Then they will go on to talk about something else.

I don’t really know how to respond to this and it kind of hurts me whenever it happens. I’m not really sure how to deal with it.

  1. If your friend never engages with the topics that you want to discuss, it’s most likely because they are not interested in either the topic, or if its continuous, you. This is definitely something worth bringing up if you value your friendship, but prepare for the possibility that they may not / no longer care.

  2. If it were me, I would point out this change in reaction to my friend. “Hey, Robin. You know, I feel like we’ve always been able to talk about stuff. But I’ve noticed that lately when I talk to you about something I’m excited about, you don’t seem very interested. What’s up?” And just see how they respond. You never know what they may have going on in their life that has nothing to do with you that you don’t know about. It could be all kinds of things. They may not even realize that they’re doing it.
