Not close but Snowdonia has got to be on your list and it’s a lot closer than Scotland
North ridge of Tryfan then onto Bristly ridge….home across the Glyders and down Devils Kitchen is excellent (don’t know what grade but its fantastic fun)
Edit:- day two do Crib Goch at Snowdon also an excellent grade 1

The closest climbing is bouldering and it is Harrison’s rocks etc. I think they are crap.
The closest nice climbing is indeed the Peak District, whether limestone or gritstone. Lots of v nice short routes.
The closest nice scrambling, I am afraid, is what /u/Latter-Performer-387 and is in Snowdonia.
I recommend joining one of the walking/climbing clubs and sharing lifts/ car journeys. In my obsessed phase, I went to Snowdonia 15 weekends once in one year.
The Lake District is another half hour further again, and is less flexible (Snowdonia you can decide what to do on the day becausethe roads criss-cross it, LD you have to kind of choose a quadrant before you go not to waste time) but has tons and tons.
The Peak District is OK to do in a day trip, FWIW. Snowdonia needs a weekend per trip, the LD is better on along weekend than a normal one. Scotland is still better, but is mad to do in a weekend (though I used to do that in winter to go ice climbing).
I would guess N.Wales. Sheffield and Yorkshire are more your short single pitch rock climbs rather than traditional scrambles.
