As the leading UK “ask” subreddit, we welcome questions from all users and countries; sometimes people who ask questions might not appreciate or understand the nuance of British life or culture, and as a result some questions can come across in a different way than intended.
We understand that when faced with these questions, our users may take the opportunity to demonstrate their wit, dry humour, and sarcasm – unfortunately, this also tends to go over the heads of misunderstood question-askers and can make our subreddit seem hostile to users from other countries who are often just curious about our land.
**Please can you help prevent our subreddit from becoming an Anti-American echo chamber?** If you disagree with any points raised by OP, or OP discusses common tropes or myths about the UK, please refrain from any brash, aggressive, or sarcastic responses and do your best to engage OP in a civil discussion, with the aim to educate and expand their understanding.

It’s not difficult you just have to pay for it a lot of the time.
I’m not sure what you mean? There aren’t local sports channels.
Now, television rights for football in this country are a joke. I could shell out a small fortune have Sky, BT, Amazon Prime, everything and still not be able to watch every “televised” match of football in this country. Chap in India pays £15 and gets it all.
But you’ll be able to watch pretty much any Premier League match (lower leagues too) as long as you pay for all the platforms I listed.
not really. you just need subscriptions. unless its on freeview tv like itv, bbc etc. then you’d need to pay e.g bt sports
You may have it garbled. There is an embargo on showing Saturday 3 pm matches, to encourage fans physically to attend matches of their local teams.
Otherwise it’s easy, but not free, or you go to the pub to see it.
It’s true. We pay more money than any other country and still only get 50% of the matches on television whilst other countries get access to every game.
And they wonder why we are all using dodgy sticks and iptv
You are correct OP it is true. Subscription fees and the resulting income that the clubs receive from tv rights sold to Sky and other broadcasters are why players can be paid such high wages that some of the best players in the world are at English clubs.
Two years before the Premier League started in 1992, the highest paid player at the club I support (now in the Championship) earnt 7 times my then salary. I am now much better paid compared to most people, nowadays even a Championship player at the club probably earns 20-25 times more.
I presume all those channels you’re talking about, you have to pay for?
You can watch live PL games on TV in the UK with Sky, Amazon, and BT, all subscription services. Or you can watch highlights of the games on the BBC every Sat and Sun. Or you can go and watch a game live, but it isn’t cheap to buy a ticket for a game with the top teams
