I posted an important letter to Australia on Tuesday. “International tracked” service, in the post office. At the time they didn’t mention any problems. Only later on did I see there was lots of disruption/hacking with Royal Mail international postage. The tracking info hasn’t changed, it says:

Tuesday 24 January

09:40 Accepted at post Office

09:56 Sender preparing item

.. and that’s it.

Just wondering, if the Royal Mail tracking isn’t working properly because of the ransomware attack, if the letter physically arrives in Australia and gets scanned there, will it appear on the Australia Post tracking website if I write the tracking number?

  1. It won’t arrive for ages. I’m not sure who let you send the letter, but RM have suspended international post (it may just be parcels, actually, but there is disruption anyway)

I wouldnt get your hopes up at all, it may be lost, if not I wouldn’t expect it to arrive for a few weeks.

The Royal mail tracking number should work on auspost website, and may show more detail once it arrives in Australia

  2. They haven’t starting sending international tracked yet. We got a notification on Thursday that they had started sending tracked and signed but not tracked on its own yet. I can’t believe the post office processed the letter.
