That seems high even for rotor and pad replacement all around. Parts should be $180 to $300 depending on quality. Add in their mark-up, and you’re still looking at more labor costs than I would expect. Kelly Blue Book has a cost estimating tool, and for random Honda Civic I put in, they’re showing less than $500 for the job.

You would likely need to post the breakdown/quote you got. A brake job depends on what is being replaced. You replace the rotor, caliper and pads on the front and that will be a higher cost then just the rotor and pads. You start changing out things like that and the part and labour costs go up. Plus the car is 15. Has the car ever had a brake job/service on it before? Neglect and lack of service can mean seized calipers if you live somewhere with winter and aren’t doing regular maintenance like the brake service. That is usually yearly on most cars that see winter.
Get multiple quotes
Honda guy here. If you’re taking it to the dealer, that’s a fair price. But you can get it done cheaper somewhere else. Go to a small shop that has a Honda mechanic (not that it matters for brakes) and go with OEM brake pads and aftermarket rotors. As long as the rotors are vented and coated, they’re all basically the same to your average daily driver.
You could buy all the tools and parts you need, get a youtube premium subscription, and knock it out in a couple hours of time for your first DIY. Oh and have money left to spare.
For pads only, that seems ridiculous. I would assume rotors too. Go support your local automotive repair shop and let some kid do it for ya if you don’t plan to do it yourself.
That is about right for a Honda. Also the brakes should have been done long before 97k miles. It would have resulted in a smaller bill too.
