I’m an American, my wife is Canadian. She recently passed the Citizenship test, and after her oath ceremony will become a dual-citizen Canadian-American!

We’re really excited, and I want to do something to celebrate like a party with local friends or something, was just curious if all the folks on here had some creative ideas!

  1. Buy her flowers and put an American and a Canadian flag in the bouquet. Has nothing to do with the party, just be classy like that.

Throw a cookout and then watch Super Troopers 2 on a large projection screen.

  2. just do something your wife likes to do, take her out to a fancy meal or something. No need to overthink it! Also congrats to your wife.

  3. This is one of those situations where it’s appropriate to get as stereotypical as possible. American flag clothes, paper plates, decorations. Get some fireworks, some bbq, beer in red solo cups. A mix of patriotic country songs. Then invite your friends and neighbors and have a good time.

  4. My friend got her citizenship last year, me and another friend helped her study for the exam. A day or two after she passed I went to her house with some America themed kitsch from 5 Below and we drank wine and ordered takeout.

  5. Gift her a Team USA jersey with “Hull” no. 16 on the back.

    She’ll get it. She’ll laugh. I promise.

  6. What would be more American than going to one of those fully-automatic gun ranges, firing off a few hundred rounds in a matter of minutes, and then going out for a porterhouse steak and a pitcher of beer?

  7. If she likes action movies, have a movie night with that classic documentary Independence Day.

If she prefers some other genre, I’m sure folks around here could make some appropriately patriotic suggestions.

  8. Buy a gun. Cliché I know but the right to bear arms is a fairly unique to our country.

  9. I’m married to a Canuck too! Since you’re a dual citizen couple, why not do some mixed things?

Drink some Crown and coke out of Red Solo cups?

listen to the Hip and Metric on the way to the gun range?

Go to the next Jets – Wild game?

    Trash talk Quebec together?

  10. I don’t know how close you are to International Falls (going by your MN flair), but if you’re close enough to make it a day trip that’s my idea.

  11. Wrap bacon around the barrel of an AR-15 and fire off about a hundred rounds. Eat the now-cooked bacon.

  12. Just remind her she’s on the right side of the border to see a team win the Stanley Cup

  13. Burn a flag.

Whether it’s a Canadian flag or an American flag you burn, that will be up to you.

But goddamn it, it’s an American right to burn a flag.

  14. I like the idea of having a cookout and cook a few traditional dishes from the US and Canada. Maybe Mac n cheese and burgers, and poutine and maple glazed rolls. The rolls may not be traditional but they sound good.

  15. Get a cake made to look like the white house, cover it with a ton of candles. Let her light it up and blow it out
