It’s not clear that everyone is skint, from what I’ve heard quite a few of the better off are keen to get away after covid (according to that holiday bloke off the radio). So the situation might not be so simple. Always worth hanging on for a bargain though, probably, if you don’t mind missing out.
I doubt it
Costs for airlines and hotel operators have increased too, naturally those costs get passed on to consumers. The biggest cost for airlines is fuel so if they are running massively over capacity then they’ll just cancel flights.
It might be surprising but everyone is definitely not skint.
In my experience, the price you pay for holidays is mostly dependent on how much effort you go to when looking for bargains, and how un-choosy you decide to be.
All other factors are out of your control.
I don’t know anyone going on holiday in the UK, so the supply and demand logic is there.
However, you’re likely competing with other Europeans for that 10-day all inclusive to Turkey… meaning that the only saving to be had would be the flights… and they’re already dirt-cheap
I’ve found tui and jet2 to have really gone up this year. I wanted to book 7 days to Crete with tui to a specific hotel. The flights over were easyJet and I was allowed 15kgs baggage and had a coach transfer.
The exact same hotel, for 10 days, with easyJet holidays, still the same flight over, 23kgs of luggage and a minibus transfer (so a faster transfer as less drop offs) was £700 cheaper.
So 3 more days holiday, at the same hotel, same flight over, better luggage and transfers, was £700 less. It was even cheaper if I went for a week so it wasn’t like the flight home was causing the issue. Used them a few times now and they’re almost always cheaper/better.
Not everyone is skint. Only those earning less than say 40k can’t afford to be jetting off all over. Or those who’ve paid mortgages off.
