Multiple people have expressed to me that my voice has a really off-putting element. Sometimes people don’t express anything but act awkward, some politely tell me that it’s unpleasant to listen to, and I’ve had people leave a conversation insisting that it’s unbearable. Things go way better in text.

I know it’s not just in my head because of the multiple sources saying it to my face over a wide range of time and places, and… I don’t hate my own voice… I actually kinda like it. I don’t cringe when I hear it on tape or anything.

So, what can I do? It makes me especially sad because sometimes people close to me will want to talk to me but just not be able to cope with it if they’re already feeling stressed.

I’ve asked people to try to explain why, but it’s not really easy for them. I haven’t been able to get a straight answer beyond “It’s just bad…”

  1. honestly if you like your own voice then I wouldn’t care about it myself

But, if you really are insistant on changing you can definitely change your voice. Idk if its your tone / or the actual sound that your voice is, but either one you can change. Trans people do something called voice training I think so maybe you can look into that if you really care, but I would say that if youre happy with it then that is good.

  2. you can change where you speak from to change your pitch. look up voice deepening tutorials on youtube to learn to use your diaphragm, and speak from the chest. it takes a lot of practice but if you wanna change you can do it.

you can find your natural depth by humming and slowly moving your chin to your collarbone.

anyway its really rude for people to act that way towards you. do what you wanna do though
