That guy prob forgot about what u said by the next day. If I were, Id forget about it. If the man from India was insulted, Im sure he would have brought it to ur attention.
How long had he been in Canada? If he was newly visiting, this seems like a common kind of compliment (“you sound like a native!”); if he’s any type of regular English speaker and/or a Canadian citizen in any capacity, then yes it was probably rude
Yeah that sounds like a compliment, not rude at all. I think advanced language learners really appreciate knowing whether they have the handle on regionalisms and slang and stuff.
Better not to say but not that big a deal.
Keep in mind that English is many if not most people’s second language in India, a few people’s first. Some Indian accents are hard to understand but others are not.
