I used to be able to just click ‘my profile’ and it would have all the relevant information and options needed relating to my account such as information, password, security, log out, etc

Now I feel like I have to go on a quest just to log out or find a piece of information about my account

I’ve even spent 5 minutes just trying to cancel a free trial. They don’t support the page which let’s you cancel on the app either. I feel like they make it hard on purpose so people give up and give them more money

  1. Anything they can do to squeeze as much money out of you.

I’ve given up on online shopping now I’m sick of it.

  2. I remember being completely lost trying to find out which email address I was currenly signed in with as I have 2 accounts. Ended signing out (which was also buried somewhere) just to figure out which account I was using.

Really don’t enjoy using, browsing, buying from amazon anymore. All pictures are usually stock and from some dodgy chinese seller. As well as generally more expensive nowadays too.

Like most things, they get greedy and it all goes to pot.

A shitty tactic used by shitty behaving companies in all industries.

I remember back in the day trying to cancel NTL and I was passed from pillar to post for freaking hours.

  4. Yes, absolutely. In web design they’re called ‘dark patterns’. The EU have / are trying to outlaw them in certain cases. Doubt the UK/US will.

  5. I disagree. I’ve cancelled Amazon Prime a bunch of times and it’s always really easy. They even give a partial refund in some instances, which must be a huge pain for them.

They make it as easy as possible for the customer so you’ll come back.

  6. It’s hard to cancel on Amazon but that’s pretty standard for subscription services tbh.

What blows my mind is how shit the site and app are especially when using linked services like kindle. As someone in IT it’s painfully clear it’s a bit of a mess in the bag end between log in pages, the app, the site, kindle stuff, account pages, subscription pages etc

It only takes 2 clicks to get to that information from the main page on a browser.

Hover the mouse over “Hello [name] Account & Lists”

    Click “My Account”

    Click “Login & Security”

Log Out is even easier, after you hover the mouse over “Hello [name] Account & Lists”, just click “Sign Out”.

  8. The trial cancelling being difficult is by design, so is the fact that ‘featured’ products are listed above the item you were actually searching for and the fact that the mobile app doesn’t support the same filters as the website. All these methods make Amazon more money, there’s no profit in selling you just the cheapest version of the item you intended to buy.

  9. They don’t prioritise the customer because they don’t have to. It’s the same reason they haven’t fixed the abominable search function. People still buy from them, they still spend hours searching through the wrong results to simple queries – why bother spending money to help the few who can’t or won’t? They’re not a large enough segment of the population to bother about.

Fuck you, we’re Amazon, if you don’t like us fuck off, there’s plenty of people who’ll put up with our shitty service

  10. Chiming in to complain that the site is now full of third party tat and it does my head in.

You’ll see something that looks like a bargain then find its from a Chinese seller with 34% positive feedback. Delivery in 8-12 weeks.

    eBay’s just as bad.

  11. There’s a bunch of youtube channels that disassemble Amazon/ebay electrical items. They nearly always are unsafe: unearthed, under-specced components, fake safety labels.

It’s amazing there aren’t more house fires/electricutions given this stuff is everywhere.

  12. 99% of UX design is pretty much the same these days.

You click the burger button. Last option will be LogOut
