I was thinking about this event recently. As a kid, it seemed like a big deal. “Weekly Reader” wrote about it and there was even a whole episode or two of “Captain Planet” about it. There seemed to be a real sense of urgency in it all and a feeling that the adults just didn’t give a fuck because they’d all be dead by the time the bill came due.

  1. I was 10 and I can recall it happening and I think we did some environment related stuff in school at the time because of it but I can’t recall any specifics.

  2. There was an old mall in my city that was about to be closed. They turned it into a super cool walking earth day kinda museum thing. My class went on field trips twice that year. I remember making a pencil out of wood and learning about how water filtration works. An art department from a high school made life size displays of native trees and plants and we could walk through a simulation of what the prairies looked like before settled, including this cool thing showing how deep Tallgrass roots can go.

  3. I never knew it was a thing back then and didn’t know it was a thing now until you mention it.

  4. No memory at all. I was 15 and it was June, I was probably more worried about going to the mall or the beach and checking out girls.
