I’m a uni student living with a roommate. I legitimately do not remember the last time I spent more than half a day alone. I am an introvert by nature so this is becoming too much for me. I want to isolate myself for a week or two but i’m always the one making plans for my friend group and bringing them together so my friends keep reaching out to me to hang out. It’s like the cannot hang out with each other unless I’m there and when i say i’m busy they blame me for ruining their plans or whatever. I really, really want to be myself for a while and focus on my own life.

My question is; how do I isolate myself from everyone for a while without upsetting people?

  1. Learning to say no is a valuable skill, esp in college. Tell them you’re overwhelmed or busy with school. If they shit on you for being busy or “ruining their plans” then do they really care about you?

  2. I’m an introvert. I love socialising, but definitely need days to myself to recover. And I also just enjoy the balance.

I have some friends where I can say, “I can’t hang out this week, I need some alone time”. And they totally get that, cos I’ve told them about being introverted.

For others who don’t quite understand that, I just say “I’m busy, I can’t this week”. They don’t need to know that I’m busy doing nothing.
