I live in New York and went to a hole in the wall (shitty) barber shop and was charged 35$ w/o the tip. Is this happening everywhere?

  1. My barber upped his prices to $50 for haircut and $40 for beard trim/line up…..needless to say he’s not my barber anymore 😂

  2. A lot of hair places went out of business during the pandemic. Massive lack of supply. I used to never have to wait but now I’m almost always guaranteed a wait of an hour unless I make an appointment.

  3. $15 under the table from a friend who used to own a saloon (hair cut at her house, when we can swing it).

    $20 at my barber

$24 at the Hair cuttery when I’ve been dragging out getting a hair cut and just need a walk-in.

Those prices are about $4-5 higher then it used to 2 – 3 years ago, so not horrible (and those previous price points had been the same for a decade or so despite inflation going up as well – if at a smaller rate).

Anyone whose paying $35+, I can almost bet they’re either in a Democratically controlled State or a city limits with higher taxes – rental costs for business owners to eat (which in turn requires higher costs for consumers).

  4. My barbershop went from $25 to $50 between 2020-2022

I started giving myself a buzzcut when things were closed during the pandemic, and prices have me continuing to do it still.

  5. My local barber went up from £14 to £16 for a basic haircut last year. Shit sucks, but I don’t trust myself to do my own hair and I kinda like the experience. At least we don’t have to tip in this country though.

  6. Everything is going up everywhere. And it’s going up way more than the inflation rate. My son and I get basic haircuts at a barber shop. Now cost $50+ before tip and tax

  7. Use to pay $12-15 for a haircut. Every barber shop was a walk in and you were done in 20 minutes. Now everywhere is $40-50. There’s even a few that charge $60-70. And everywhere is appointment only and takes 30-60 minutes. Drives me insane. 40-70 for a simple ass skin fade is absolute bullshit. Not to mention 85% of them can’t fade worth a shit

  8. I got a couple of bad cuts in a row years ago. Bought a Wahl clipper set, and have been cutting my own hair ever since. Cost me $50, and about $15 in replacement blades. I’ve gotten pretty good at it – takes way less time than going to the barber, and I’ve saved a lot of money over the years.

  9. Everything has been going up the past few years. People just didn’t notice until it was already too late. Hair cuts are more expensive but its not thar big of a deal.

  10. dude I pay $50 plus tip.

But, I go to the place I go to because A) they do great haircuts, B) the place is spotless and the service is outstanding, and C) they’re locally owned a bring a ton of diversity to the neighborhood. Plus they’re next door to an amazing Thai restaurant.

  11. In England it’s like 15 at a shitty place and 35 somewhere good. I don’t mind 35 cause I grow my hair quite long but for someone with a skin fade that is brutal

  12. My barber upped prices from $25 to $30 just a few months ago. But they’re the best around, and imo totally worth it. Great people, great service and I also know ima look hella fresh afterwards.

  13. My barber when from $30 to $35. Don’t really mind paying up to $40 since he knows how I like my hair and it’s hard to go somewhere else once you’ve got a good thing going.
