I hate it when people do this. Someone I know told me he’s writing a book. He asked if I wanted a copy. I said sure. He said “great I’ll send it to you. Just send me $$$”. How do I back out of this? From the wording it sounded free and I didn’t want to sound like I didn’t care about his book.

  1. Meh, just don’t send the money. They have no right to be offended, because they weren’t straight forward that it was a sale, not a gift. I don’t know if they’re aware of what they’re doing, but it’s manipulative nonetheless, and you have no moral obligation in a situation where trickery is used.
