Sometimes I go to the local 24hr Asda after a late shift, so just after midnight. There’s always a bunch of boy racers parked really close together but just sat in their cars not talking to eachother. I find it weird.

  1. Well my knobs just so big, I even rev my car when I leave big Tesco after being there all night

  2. The same reason you might go to the Pub with a group of friends, to have a chat and be social

  3. This isn’t unique to the UK either.

    People do this in Sweden.

I think supermarket car parks are just attractive to new drivers late at night.

Although, I suspect they just enjoy the large amount of space.

  4. Because they’re in cars and supermarkets have car parks in central convenient locations

  5. >parked really close together

Where I live, they park close to pass a joint along the line, you can smell it.

  6. They hang in council car parks here as they are free after 6pm.

The supermarket ones cctv will get you for not purchasing as they close at 9pm.

  7. Why do you ask questions to strangers you already know the answer to in the middle of the night? I find that even more weird.

  8. Somewhere to gather and hang out, unlikely to have anyone come complaining about your presence.

  9. Me and my husband (then boyfriend) were big in to the max power scene when we were younger and honestly it’s not different to sitting round a table in a pub or at a restaurant. Some of the best laughs I’ve ever had were in a car park just messing around chatting shit.

  10. I guess it has something to do with space. Them and their mates have somewhere to take their cars. To be honest, I’d rather they gather there than on my street. As long as they’re doing no harm.

  11. Cause the vast majority can’t afford to rent or buy cause of their cars, plus where they gonna go and show off their pride and joy. Better than hanging around the corner shop

  12. To rev, to donut, to burn rubber, to get the testosterone, adrenaline and the dopamine pumping.

    Boo yakka!

  13. Growing up in an area with not much to do and still living at home (meaning not being able to have mates round etc) we used to do this too when we were 18/19.

Just drive somewhere quiet and chill with our cars, maybe grab a takeaway or something on the way.

  14. Because there aren’t any youth centres or fun things to do, so this is the only option they have.

  15. Drugs. They are usually in the back corner of the car park, waiting for a few to come and buy then bugger off after 2-4 buyers.

  16. There was me thinking they were all congregating in the car park at the end of my street.

  17. To be honest Id go to one of these. Its late, its dark, its chilled out just you and a bunch of friends. But whilst with friends you can each sit in your pride and joy while listening to music and chatting.

  18. To be young and carefree and not really give a shit about adults and their issues. Wtf is wrong with this sub?

  19. Used to do this pre-covid. tbh it’s just like any other way of hanging out with friends, you roll the windows down and sit in a row chatting or going on your phone. Half the time on Autotrader or looking for car parts. A lot of the time people still live with their parents but are also broke from spending all their money on the car so it’s like a cheaper option than going to the pub. We also had sober people so it’s good to spend time away from alcohol-centric places.

  20. They spent all their money on cars and now can’t afford to do anything else. Can’t even afford to pay for the fuel.

  21. Well if you and friends are in to cars, but have work/ college/whatever in the daytime, where else would you go?

  22. Because it’s not at home with their parents. They have their own space which they in control of.

  23. Youngsters can’t afford to move out of their parents house, so the only place they can get some peace and chill with their mates is in cars.

Suppose it’s the same as when you’re pre driving age and you just hang around in the park or shopping centre or whatever

I saw the same thing surprisingly in Holland. My hotel was near to a McDonald’s and there were Dutch teenagers sitting there revving their cars and such. I felt right at home

  24. haha this is so funny as i thought it was just me! i work at a tesco superstore and finish late on sundays and the car park is absolutely flooded with boy racers racing up and down, vaping, chatting in their cars. really weird
