My friend invited me to his 18th birthday later this week and I’m totally going, but I’m not entirely sure what I should do there? How do I have fun at a party? How do I talk to people there? How do I make a good first impression on the other guests? What should I do right after arriving? How do I know who I can approach? What do I talk about and how?

Your friend is throwing the party, so he sets the scene. You guys doing anything, or is it just a social mixer with drinks. For example I like to have some party games on the table when I throw a party.
As for what you should do. The worst thing you could do is sit in silence and do nothing. Just participate in what the rest is doing, join conversations. If it’s a big party and there are multiple groups, just go stand by one and say hi.
Or walk up to someone who is standing alone and start a conversation. You could for example compliment their clothing or something.
