What should you do/say after a topic of conversation comes to an end and you and the other person are just dead silent?

1. You should pay more attention. Everything they say that isn’t a one word answer is a ‘thread’ you can pick up later. If she is at all interested in talking with you and paying attention you could literally talk until you die of thirst.
