Posted here because if I post on the Sheff and Notts subreddits I’ll only be more likely to get a biased opinion.

I basically really like these two cities and have a choice at the moment to live and work in both.

Which city in your opinion is better to live in (I am 30 years old with no kids by the way)?

  2. Both are great!

    1) Sheffield is MUCH HILLIER than Nottingham If hilliness is good or bad for you, it’s open and shut which one you choose. It’s bonkers how hilly Sheffield is.

    2) Sherwood Forest or Peak District? Peak District is on Sheffield’s doorstep.

    3) Yorkshire- if you want to buy into Little Yorkshire-ism, or even great Yorkshire-ism, your choice is Sheffield.

  3. I’d say Sheffield. It has the Peak District, it’s a 10-15 minute drive to be in beautiful rolling countryside. It has Tramlines festival in the city every summer, which is getting bigger by the year. Also Meadowhall is one of the best shopping centres in the U.K.

Only things Nottingham has that Sheffield doesn’t is Cricket at Trent Bridge, Slamdunk Festival and a Hooters (which is awful anyway).

  4. Nottingham is much easier to get around by bike. But both have good public transport and tram systems. Nottingham has a better live music and restaurant scene in my opinion.

Sheffield has easier access to more interesting countryside. Meadowhall is either a benefit or a hell hole depending on your personal taste.

I like them both though. Personally I’d look at both and see just where I can find a nicer flat / house for my budget.
