Sometimes I’ll be afraid to do things, afraid to try something new, afraid to talk to someone who may intimidate me but then I just internally channel my “Yes Man” persona and it usually works. It helps me be my own hype man and it reminds me that I may be missing out on something that could be life changing. Once I push myself to be exposed to a new group of people or a new situation, I can usually handle myself well from there. It’s just the mental battle before that stresses me out.

  1. That movie certainly has a valuable lesson in it. When he tracks down the self-help guy he lays it out: forcing yourself to say yes more opens you up to the opportunities that were always there. The hardest part of any adventure is starting it; once you’re in it, things figure themselves out.

  2. That movie really inspired me as well! Obviously, I don’t say yes to everything (I think the trick is figuring out how to get out of your comfort zone and still keep healthy boundaries) but I often agree or decide to do things I’m not actually particularly interested in or afraid of nowadays, which often leads to some unexpected positive outcomes. The worst part is always the day or so before meeting someone new or doing a new activity, when you actually jump in and do it, it often turns out quite well and even if it doesn’t, you’ve still learnt something from it.
